We send you the invitation from initiative "Action - Thessaloniki 2003" for the
manifestations during the EU - Summit on June 2003.

INVITATION
Dear friends
While we are approaching to the summit of the European Union in Thessaloniki,
our campaign “Action-Thessaloniki 2003” is continuing and culminating in the
mass actions and initiatives against the reactionary policies of the EU, with
the participation and involvement of thousands and thousands of workers,
peasants, youth and students. As you all know tens of protest mobilizations,
conferences and initiatives have been carried out successfully since the Greek
government took over the presidency in January this year.
Those struggles, along with the recent huge anti-war, anti-imperialist
mobilizations all around Europe, have strengthen our conviction that the people
and their movement are able to provide a strong anti-imperialist militant
response to the policies of EU and NATO; that we can build a mighty front of
struggle against the monopoly capital and its institutions and the governments
and political forces that serve its interests; that there is no superpower in
the world that can compete the united will of the popular movements.
Towards the summit of the EU in Thessaloniki (20-22 June) “Action-Thessaloniki
2003” is going to organize many more events and actions all over Greece,
whenever and wherever the EU is holding its informal and formal ministers’
meetings, where the EU is further elaborating its attacks on workers and peoples
rights in all spheres of their lives.
In this framework Action-Thessaloniki 2003 is inviting you to the central
activities of the Counter Summit 2003 in Thessaloniki from 20-22 June 2003.
We have the readiness and the will to organize multifaceted and diverse events
during these 3 days, aiming at a powerful popular respond to the plans of the
Greek and the other EU-governments, especially after the enlargement of the EU,
the imperialist war in Iraq and the new threats of the imperialists against
peoples and nations around the world.
The special weight and focus of the 3 days events goes to the International
Popular Mass Protest demonstration on the 21st June in the city of Thessaloniki.
The whole program of the 3 days will be as follows:
Day1: June 20.
-Demonstration to the venue of the EU summit in Chalkidiki (approx. 100 km from
Thessaloniki, at the seaside)
(Departure& Return to the city of Thessaloniki by buses)
Day 2: June 21.
- Morning: Counter-Summit activities and cultural events at various sites of the
city
- Afternoon: The main Action with the big international demonstration and march
in protest to the European Union policies in the city of Thessaloniki
- Evening: Anti-EU concert with the participation of Greek and International
artist groups
Day 3: June 22.
- Counter-Summit activities and cultural events at various sites of the city
* Accommodation info.
All components of "Action-Thessaloniki" will make arrangements for the
accommodation of participants in the manifestations of Thessaloniki (Trade
Unions, Political forces, Youth and Students organizations, Peace and Solidarity
movements, etc)
Private accommodation. There is possibility to arrange private accommodation in
homes for a limited number of persons, given that there is an early request, for
20-22 of June.

Youth Camping. There will be a youth camping organized from 18-22 of June in the
outskirts of Thessaloniki, so that young people may combine low budget staying
in Greece with participation in the manifestations. A special invitation has
been issued for this purpose already.

Public Spaces. Public Spaces for free accommodation with sleeping bags in the
City and outskirts of Thessaloniki will be also available. Contact: info@action-salonika2003.org
Hotels. If you intend to book hotel rooms at reasonable prices, it is better to
hurry up because Thessaloniki has a rather limited hotel capacity. For

* Transportation
If you want to travel to Thessaloniki coming from another point of Greece, you
may contact the local mobilization committees that will arrange transportation
to Thessaloniki from all parts of Greece.
Ask info@action-Salonika2003.org and they will provide you a responsible contact
person in any city or town in Greece.
* Visa arrangements
In case you need a visa or invitation letter to pass the Greek borders you have
to make all necessary arrangements at least 3 weeks before the event. In case
you need a personal invitation for issuing of visa, address to info@action-salonika2003.org
or to any of its components
*Legal and Shengen questions for cases of emergency “action-Thessaloniki
2003” will has available a group of lawyers that will address legal and
Shengen questions.
We are very much looking forward to receiving you in Thessaloniki, sharing and
exchanging with all of you experiences from the common struggle and exploring
the possibilities for a closer coordination of our initiatives also in the
future.
